Okay, so yesterday I got back and went to bed quite early having been told to rest after the general anaesthetic. Only to be woken at five am by a British drunk. Who would not stop hammering every doorbell in the house for forty minutes.

PLEASE if you are coming to Prague, do not stay at The Castle Steps. Looks lovely doesn't it and yes, we actually used to recommend it to people, but in the last year in particular, they have subdivided all the apartments they rent in our building into tiny units,  with thin partition walls, and the scenario that's happening more and more is that they rent for a long weekend to "two" young men, who then move another 4-6 only-here-for-cheap-booze-and-sex yobs in. The extra yobs don't have keys of course - but hey, that doesn't matter, they can just wake up anyone else in the house when they get back from drinking all night and yell abuse until they are let into the building. British yob style.

I did phone The Castle Steps "emergency" number in the end and got a pretty rude guy who told me to call the police myself and then hung up on me (and no, I was not rude, in fact I was icily polite and explained to him that I was just back from surgery and needed him to do something himself).

So, stay there at your peril, because when these things happen in the night you won't get any help or support as there really isn't anyone on duty - even at a distance - who will actually do anything. My advice is to stay in a proper hotel with a night concierge - room rates are way down this year and in many cases it'll be less expensive in any case.

Thank God we're moving before the summer season gets properly underway. This gorgeous building is becoming used as a kind of cheap doss-house for groups of drunks, and it's a shame.

Here is a fairly recent review - I expect there will be more and more like this unless or until the management gets a grip.

Ugh.. it always saddens me that such a beautiful city has to play host to the drunken yob element!!!!! ;/

Hope you continue to recover well without any more 'interruptions'!!

I'm sorry to be moaning about this sort of thing so much right now - but we seem to have encountered it a lot. I used to hope that Prague was getting too expensive for men like this, but as the crown has dropped again, the numbers seem on the rise.

I'm so sorry. Such a beautiful old building. Get better soon.

Thank-you. Well, the new apartment is in a building that is mainly older people - and no holiday lets. So really there is only another couple of weeks of this to put up with.

It really does look like a lovely place and it's a shame they're letting their reputation go down the drain like that. I expect a lot gets destroyed by the drunks as well. Do you actually live in the building or next to it?
I hope the surgery has helped, Karen.

We live in the same building unfortunately. They have gradually taken it over and sub-divided the flats and the whole thing has gone downhill.

I am feeling a lot better for having gone through yesterday. Jana, the doctor, is terrific and turned up looking fantastic and laughing and joking - somehow very heartening. She has the reputation of being the best gynae surgeon in the city (and with a great team - all female) and my goodness, the difference between this time and the last time, five years ago, is very noticeable. I have had virtually no pain and somehow can just tell it was very well done.

It is sad when locations go down hill like this. I thought the review was great - and the response from management pretty predictable!

Buyer (or renter) beware!

Yes, I know they are having a bad time as bookings are down. But renting to people like this is not the way to improve things. Plus they just have to have a night number that actually is responsive. No point in having someone that just puts down the phone and goes back to sleep!
